Dr. Jadis BlurtonDr. Blurton is the founder and Clinical Director of Therapy Associates. She received her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of California, Riverside, and is licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in the United States. Prior to coming to Hong Kong, she worked in a number of settings, teaching at the University of California and California State University for several years as well as practicing clinically and directing a children's diagnostic clinic in West Virginia. Dr. Blurton also serves as the Principal and Director of The Harbour School (a mainstream international primary school), the Chairperson of The Children’s Institute of Hong Kong (an institution for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders) and the Acting Past-President of the Hong Kong Psychotherapy Society. She is the 2009 recipient of the American Chamber of Commerce Ira Dan Kaye Award for Community Service.

Dr. Blurton works with a wide variety of issues, including attentional problems in adults and children, parenting skills, blended families, divorce or couples' counseling, alternative lifestyle preferences, mood disorders, and helping couples, families, and individual adults and children adjust to the stresses of modern life in Hong Kong. She has an eclectic and personal approach to therapy, focusing on the specific needs and strengths of individuals, couples, and families. As a therapist, she sees her role as one of guide, supporter, and interpreter, assisting clients to find their own solutions to the problems and emotions that may confront them.

When working with children, adolescents, and families, Dr. Blurton is also able to call on her personal experiences as the parent of six children in a blended family. Because children both contribute to and grow within the family system, she sees family involvement as an important part of work with children and adolescents. In addition to her Masters and Ph.D. in Psychology, Dr. Blurton holds a Masters degree in Special Education and has considerable experience in working with education for the gifted, children with specific learning disabilities, and children with attentional or behavioral disorders.

Having lived on four continents, Dr. Blurton is well versed with the stresses and adjustments that accompany living outside of one's home country. Dr. Blurton considers one of her primary goals to be to help clients, be they younger or older, clearly understand and evaluate the choices available to them.
