Dr.
Ho is an Australian registered psychologist. He has received his
clinical training at the doctoral programme of clinical psychology
in one of the prominent universities in Australia, the University
of Sydney. Prior to this experience, Dr. Ho completed his master
degree in social work and a bachelor degree with double majors in
psychology and sociology at the University of Hawai`i at Manoa.
In addition, he is a licensed social worker in the United States
and registered social worker in Hong Kong.
While studying and working in Australia and the United States,
Dr. Ho realized that effective treatments could only be derived
from extensive research studies. As a result, Dr. Ho has devoted
himself to conducting research studies, developing new treatments
and public education specializing in anxiety disorders (e.g. panic
disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social phobia, and general
anxiety disorder) and depression for both child and adult populations.
Dr. Ho adapts mainly a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach
which is an evidence-based treatment and has been strongly recommended
to be the first treatment option for various psychological difficulties
by research studies. Indeed, numerous research literature has concluded
that CBT has been found as effective as medications in treating
various psychological disorders, in particular anxiety disorders
and depression in the past few decades.
As an intern clinical psychologist, Dr. Ho has worked in a numbers
of clinical settings, including both child and adult populations.
He has worked in the Psychology Clinic at the University of Sydney,
the Childrens Hospital at Westmead, the Wesley Private Hospital,
and the Rozelle Psychiatric Hospital. While working in different
settings, Dr. Ho involved himself in developing new treatments for
children and adults with anxiety difficulties, children with obese
difficulty, and individuals with psychiatric disorders.
From a preventive medicine perspective, Dr. Ho ascribes to the
notion that when it comes to treating psychological difficulties,
prevention is often possible and, when such, the most effective
treatment. Therefore, Dr. Ho has translated his belief into practice
by educating the public about various psychological difficulties
and how they can be avoided in the first place. Dr. Ho has been
interviewed on a number of radio programs to promote mental health
awareness. Furthermore, he has written a series of newspaper articles
to educate the public about anxiety disorders.

Growing up in a society where both academic and personal achievements
are highly emphasized, Dr. Ho understands that competition, especially
here in Hong Kong, can be found everywhere in school and work. Unfortunately,
this competition often turns into damaging expectations among relationships,
such as parent-child, husband-wife, and supervisor-subordinate relationships
and manifests as various forms of psychological difficulties which
can impair an individuals ability and life. Dr. Ho believes
that an individual can improve their quality of life and enhance
ones ability by first understanding the underlying causes
of those difficulties, second changing their thoughts and behaviors
that are maladapted, and finally utilizing the unique strengths
of the individual.
