Esther LongEsther has lived in the UK, Australia and Hong Kong. Having been educated in the UK, and attained her Honours Degree in Psychology, Esther moved to Sydney to work in Psychological Research and to complete her Clinical training at the Univeristy of New South Wales at Masters Level. Through her placements and research work, Esther has worked with individuals with acquired brain injuries, tinnitus sufferers, adults at Westmead Hospital Anxiety Disorders Unit, and children and parents at Sydney Children's Hospital. Prior to relocating to Hong Kong, Esther spent several years working at a Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Unit in Sydney, Case Managing teenagers in the 10-week school-based program, and assessing family functioning in 5-day Family Admissions during the school holidays

Esther's experience and interest lies in working with teenagers with emotional and behavioural difficulties, and their families. In the context of working with teenagers, Esther has not only found it useful to understand the specific issues faced by the individual, but also to gain insight into the interaction of these factors with the family and educational environment; thus treatment might involve the individuals, their families, and also liaising with schools and other treating professionals. Whilst originally trained in traditional Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, over the last few years, Esther has found the introduction of principles from other therapeutic approaches to be useful, such as Bowen Family Systems Theory, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy.

The range of issues which Esther has experience of are extensive, and range from anxiety & mood disorders, to self-harm, autism spectrum and externalising problems (eg. aggressive and oppositional behaviour).
