Judy graduated from Cork University Hospital as a General Nurse, and has practised in many areas including paediatric, oncology, A&E, plastics and neurology. She furthered her education to a Higher Diploma in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing from the Royal College of Surgeons Institute, where she practised in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in a leading Maternity hospital.

Judy has gained vast experience from working in the United Kingdom, Australia, Russia and New Zealand in both the private and public sectors. Her work in a Russian orphanage led her on to follow her vision of working with children, and she saw firsthand the negative effect of not having that essential bond between parents and baby from birth. This led to her undertaking the study of Infant Massage. The benefits of Infant Massage are numerous and may be broken down into four categories:

  1. Stimulation - which includes stimulation of all the physiological systems including brain development
  2. Relaxation - relieves stress. Massaged babies spend more time in an active awake state, are easier to soothe and go to sleep faster. Massage raises a baby’s stimulation threshold and builds sensation tolerance.
  3. Relief – from colic, constipation or gas.
  4. Interaction - enhances bonding with parents and enhances social and emotional development.

Classes are conducted on both an individual and group level. For more information see our brochure; to register for the next class, email us.

Judy then undertook the study of Play Therapy and Child Psychotherapy in Ireland. One-on-one Play Therapy sessions help children who are experiencing a wide range of social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. Play Therapy helps children develop responsibility and new and creative solutions to problems, learn to experience and express emotion and gain a sense of self worth and confidence, develop respect and acceptance of self and others, and improve social and relational skills with the family. Judy believes strongly in the value of Play Therapy in supporting families to ensure that each child reaches his or her full potential.

There are many other areas in which Play Therapy can help, including communication difficulties, delayed or uneven development, learning difficulties, family disruptions such as illness or divorce, trauma, bereavement or loss, abuse or neglect, chronic illness / hospitalization, bonding or attachment issues, fostering, adoption and identity issues, ADD, ADHD and Autism, elective mutism, anxiety, bullying, low self esteem.
