You aren't going to need a camera worthy of a studio photographer
for your etherapy session. In fact, the digital camera you use for
vacation snaps probably won't do the trick. You'll need a webcam.
These devices are generally much less expensive than the digital
cameras made for home photography and can be found at most computer
stores. A webcam will connect...

...and 3) perch on your desk or monitor.

Which should I buy?
While there are many manufacturers that offer very cheap models,
we recommend picking up a model made by a better known manufacturer.
A webcam comes with a piece of software called a driver that tells
your computer how to communicate with it. Microsoft checks these
drivers to ensure that they work smoothly in the Windows operating
system. Smaller manufacturers often neglect to have Microsoft double
check their webcam drivers, and may not update the software often.
Buying from a respected manufacturer ensures that your webcam will
come with the software and support needed for it to operate consistently
and well.
Here are a few recommendations, but bear in mind that they are
by no means an exhaustive list of webcams that will work for an
eTherapy session:
- Logitech
is widely known and offers large selection of webcams
- Creative
makes and sells webcams (we have used the Live!
Cam Vista IM and found it to be both cheap and effective)
- Apple
offers the iSight camera for mac users
